March 19, 2010 – 6:04 am

Ever wonder why so many superstar athletes appear in TV commercials advocating that you “stay in school?” It is because you have far more better options if you get a college degree than if you don’t. College education is not easy to obtain, especially during this critically volatile economy. But if you do not have a college degree, you will find it hard to gain employment that offers a substantial pay and a chance to build on a good life.

Many athletes realize the power of college education that they become sponsors of various college scholarship programs and college tuition grants. Some athletes who are already famous and are generating huge income decided to pursue their college degree so that they can prepare their fallbacks once they retire.

Take for instance, NBA star center Shaquille O’Neal. He already makes more than 10 million dollars a year but still, he went on to finish his degree in law enforcement. Manny Pacquiao, a boxing legend, proceeded to finish his business degree in a university in the Philippines in the wake of his planned retirement. Juan Diaz, another prizefighter, finished his college program because he believes it is one thing that could not be taken away from him.

These people have already tasted the life of superstars, yet they still chose to acquire their college degrees. It only goes to show that education is something more valuable than money. Theirs is an example everyone should follow. If college education is something you want, then basically there is no stopping you, not even the lack of money to fund your education and other college tuition costs.

There are various scholarships and college tuition grants that are being awarded every year. You just need to get more information through research and see what scholarships suit you best.
